Apnea: What to do during confinement? (1/2)
Part 1: At Home
And here we go again: lockdown again. Yay!!!!
So, here are some ideas for exercises you can do at home during these dark times. Since these exercises are widely described online and aren't specific to lockdown, I won't go into detail. However, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or would like us to elaborate on certain points.
When ?
As often as possible: 4 sessions of 15 minutes are better than one session of 1 hour. Ideally, try to set a daily slot and stick to it.
How? 'Or' What ?
Safe, of course! Since it is difficult to find a partner (except for the lucky freediving couples!), favor hypercapnic exercises, that is to say for which the recovery time is much shorter than the apnea time
What?
The list is long and not exhaustive:
– Stretching/Yoga/Pranayama: relaxation of the rib cage, trunk, shoulders, toes, etc.
-Sophrology/Meditation: Zeeeeeeeeeeeen!
-Exercise bike/Exercise treadmill/Rowing machine: increasing intensity, reducing slightly towards the end
-And for those lucky enough to own one, you can use the famous Rocky method: chasing a chicken 🙂
Example of an exercise on an exercise bike to simulate a dynamic 50m
-If we round it to 1m/s, this means making a controlled effort of 50s
-Adjust the pedaling hardness to be close to the finning effort
-Pedaling in apnea 4x20s (recovery 30s), 4x30 (recovery 30s), 4x40s (recovery 45s), 4x50s (recovery 45s)
Some safety principles:
-Never freedive alone, despite the confinement
-Stay on short recovery times
